Hi, Howdy, Hello, Hola, Bonjour, and Yo,

I know it has been a while since an update on this site.  I will try to be better about updating it.  Jared has offered to become a co-author and contribute content.   That being said drop me a line if there is any content that you would like to see added.

News From Nate! PDF Print E-mail

Nate Ryan in his Basic Training Photo at Ft. Benning, GA.

I heard from Nate today.  He is in Afghanistan.  He said they are getting ready to head out to a FOB in the mountains about ten hours away from his current location.  He said they will have a fun ride in the heat inside the Stryker APC.  He said he is doing well.  He has not had much of a chance to journal because they are kept pretty busy and he is only averaging about 4-6 hours sleep.

Nate said they have been preparing their equipment and training before they deploy into the mountains.  The area he is in is inside a section of a DOD map listed as High Risk.  “Our FOB can’t even support us right now so we will be living in a patrol base moving around the mountains” said Nate.    When asked if his unit has seen action yet he replied “no, just rocket attacks on the FOB were in now, but that is it.”
I informed him that every day at noon my alarm goes off and I say the Lord’s Prayer and a Prayer for him and his friends. He says they have a prayer session every day too.  He also said they have an Infantry creed they recite daily.
Nate informed me he has leave set up for September 20th to October 11th.  He did express interest in going to the Texas Renaissance Festival while he is home.   I told him we would do what we can to see about going.
Nate said his mom has his current address and he has received one letter from her so far.   If you would like to donate anything for a care and comfort package for Nate and his buddies (he issued an ongoing plead for Skittles), please contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Nate On his way home from Basic Training

Nate has left for his combat tour overseas.  He deployed on Friday July 10, 2009 for his one year stint.  Very early this morning we got a couple of off-line yahoo messages from Nate so he apparently got there safe.

Nate has been doing well in the Army and seems to be enjoying the hard work and all the exercise he is getting.  He is doing a tough job and we are extremely proud of him.

Please include in your prayers that he and his friends return safely.

Jared Gets His Report Card PDF Print E-mail

It's that time again and Jared actually volunteered his report card on Friday, instead of hiding it from us.  It was not the best report card, but it did show significant improvement over his previous one.  Jared did receive an A in history, crediting his dad's non-stop ramblings about history for his success.    His Spanish grade saw drastic improvement bringing his grade up by almost 20 points.  Jared passed everything except Biology, which did see improvement.  He is working hard to increase his average so he can pass the semester.

We are proud of him for working hard and encourage him to finish out the year strong.

Uncle Matt Attacked by Dog PDF Print E-mail

Friday, May 1st Uncle Matt was attacked by a dog while on the job. He was working on a phone line when the owner's dog, a pitt bull, broke off of her chain and lunged at Matt.  He received bites and scratches on his right leg.  He is OK, having received some minor wounds.  The owner was unable to produce proof of the dog's rabies vaccination.  Uncle Matt called the police and met with them and Animal Control to file a report.  The officials are testing the animal to verify it does not have rabies.  He is recovering nicely and is already back to work.
