I work in IT. Recently Bertha, my personal end user nightmare (names have been changed to protect me) called me with an issue.

Bertha: I need help! I got a big problem!

Me: OK. What is the issue?

Bertha:  I can't send this email, the email is broken.

Me: Why do you think it's broken? What is it not doing?

Bertha:  The send button is grey and I can't click it.

Me: Humm that is odd.  Let me take a look at it.

Bertha: I just hate that nothing works.

Me: OK, here it is.  There is no one in the "to" field.

Bertha: I know, but the SEND BUTTON (doing the head bobbing thing) isn't light up. I need to send it.

Me: But you have to have an address in the "to" block

Bertha: That doesn't matter if I can't send it!

Me: OK. Look if i enter my e-mail address in the "to" field the send button becomes enabled, see?

Bertha: I don't need to send YOU an email, you are right here.

Me: I was using that as an example.  Look if I take my name out, it becomes disabled.

Bertha: SEE!!! It's broken!

Me: (pounding head on my desk)

Today is Firday the 13, the paraskevidekatriaphobia day that 25 million Americans changes their behavior on this superstition day.  They’ll stay away from shopping malls and won't set foot on airplanes. The cost of all this fear comes close to $800 million per day in lost business, according to the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute in North Carolina.  To me all should be afraid.

A fire in the Heights may be another in a series of blazes set by a suspected serial arsonist, KPRC Local 2 reported.

A vacant house for sale on West 23rd Street near Bevis Street went up in flames at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"We were scared that they would try to target this home because it was always vacant," resident Elias Morganes said. "We would always see interesting people come in and out of there. It's just unfortunate that it actually did happen."

Arson dogs sniffed through the rubble, but investigators

I talked with Nate yesterday via yahoo! Messenger.

He is doing well. He complained that he isn't getting a lot of sleep.  He is working 12 hour days and standing 4 hour security watches after that.  He said things are going OK.  However he did mention that his unit is covering an area that should be covered by a much larger organization.   Nate is back to driving the Stryker APC.  "I'm just a glorified taxi driver now" Nate uttered when discussing his role.

Our proud warrior informed us that he will be returning to Texas some time in January.  He does not have the dates yet, but will give them to us as soon as he can.

Nate has asked for some items and I do have his address if you wish to send him something.  He is requesting skittles, deodorant, baby wipes, toothpaste and the like.  He said soap is useless as they don't have enough water to shower with.   He also said cookies and other snacks that that will not melt would be appreciated.

if you would like Nate's emaill address contact me at scott( at )
